Scholarships are a great way to finance your education. There are a variety of scholarship opportunities that may align with your experiences, needs, and skills sets. One such example is the STEAM Horizons Scholarship.
For those into innovation and technology, the STEAM Horizon Award is one opportunity that awards a lofty $25,000 to its recipients. It is open to all Canadian citizens and permanent residents between the ages of 16 and 18 that are planning on enrolling in their first year of post-secondary education in a STEAM field at a Canadian university. Applicants must also have had at least an 80% average in their last year of study and have been involved in formal or informal activities reflecting passion and achievements that illustrate a positive impact on the community.
Sawsan Haider, a 2020 recipient of the STEAM Horizons Award, worked on multiple machine learning and biotechnology projects including an app that uses retina scans to detect Alzheimer’s, and a machine learning algorithm to detect diseases through CT Scans.
Another recipient of the STEAM Horizon Award, Katiya Gareau-Jones, founded her own company, KK Healthy Paws, participated in a PEO bridge building competition, and is a youth ambassador for the I Love First People’s campaign in her region.
Suffice to say, the recipients of this award are outstanding leaders dedicated to achieving excellence. Like them, if you have shown the potential to inspire youth and create a better world for those around you and those to come, the STEAM Horizons scholarship might be the perfect opportunity for you!
Though the 2021 application deadline has passed and the results will be out after March, this is an amazing opportunity to look out for, for those who may be applying to post-secondary education next year.
