COMPETITIONS

Competitions are a great way for students to practice their skills in a certain area of interest. Through both online and in-person platforms, they allow students to test their abilities against other students in the broader community.

First Lego League

This a volunteer oppourtuninty at the First Lego League Challenge and First Lego League Explore events.

Scholarly Writing Challenge

The challenge provides high school students (grades 10-12 or equivalent) around the world with an opportunity to showcase their scientific writing and obtain valuable feedback on their work. Students are encouraged to submit scholarly papers ranging in format from original research manuscripts to literature reviews. The challenge aims to prepare high school students interested in STEM for the world of research and science publishing.

CWSF (Canada Wide Science Fair)

The Canada-Wide Science Fair is a national competition for around 500 youth in grades 7-12 across Canada to compete for medals, special prizes, scholarships, and science opportunities. The competition is held annually and participants can register if chosen by their regional science fair to compete. Students compete in the host city during a one-week all expenses paid trip and can enjoy sight-seeing, STEM expos, networking, and more.

INSPO Research & Innovation Competition

INSPO is an international science fair for students in grade 8-12 held annually in July. 200 finalists are selected to compete for 30k in awards, 10 internships, over $2M in scholarships and 3 sponsored trips to international research fairs representing Team Canada.

Weston Youth Innovation Competition

The Weston Youth Innovation Award was created to encourage youth innovators and is sponsored by the Ontario Science Centre. Students aged 14-18 are eligible to submit their innovation to share their idea and win big prizes. The first-place winner is awarded $15,000 with additional prizes for runner-ups as well.

Beaver Computing Challenge

The Beaver Computing Challenge allows students to compete in a computer science contest and build problem solving skills.

Life Hacks Hackathon

XdHacks Mini is a hackathon organization that seeks to challenge the minds of young STEM enthusiasts and inspire them to use their computer-science skills to solve real-world problems. The event is on Saturday August 8, 2020 from 8AM - 11:59PM PDT and Sunday August 9, 2020 from 12:00AM - 4:00PM PDT

CTMC (Canadian Team Mathematics Contest)

In groups of 6, students compete and solve a series of challenging Mathmatics Problems.

ISEF (Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair)

ISEF is an international science fair held in the United-States every year. Top students are selected to compete from eligible science fairs (Bay Area Science Fair, Montreal Science Fair, and the Canada-Wide Science Fair). Students must be in grades 9-12 with an original solo or group project (up to 4 people). Up to 5 million dollars in prizes to be won with the first place project winning $75,000 and two runner-ups are awarded $50,000.

University of Toronto National Biology Competition

The U of T Biology Competition is a 75 minute exam written by students around Canada to compete for the best score. The University of Toronto National Biology Competition is used as part of the selection criteria for the Canadian Biology Olympiad. Certificates for top 5% of competitors are issued as well as cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ($300, $200, $100 respectively). Schoalrships to U of T are given to the top 15 competitors.

American Mathematics Contest

The AMC is a series of challenging math problems, with participants from around the world.

Microsoft Imaging Cup

The Microsoft Imaging Cup allows students to come up with innovative solutions to current problems while developing their computer science skills.
