1) Take the stairs
Every student knows the struggle is real when it comes to the decision between the elevator and the stairs. As small as this may seem, taking the stairs is very beneficial. Taking the stairs can lead to greater leg strength while maintaining healthy bones and joints. Generally, climbing the stairs is faster than the elevator. The best part is, the more you do it, the easier it gets!
2) Drink water
The human body is composed of ~60% water and we need to continuously hydrate. Many students forget about water during their busy weekdays. Carry around a reusable water bottle and take advantage of the refill water stations around campus. Try to set a number of refills/day goal for yourself. Your body will be proud of you.
3) Sleep
As hard as it is to get 8 hours of sleep, it is one of the most important times of the day for your body. Give it your best shot. Sleep is involved in the healing and repair of various parts of the human body. The lack of sleep can affect many different parts of your daily life including your emotions and social interactions. So, if you finish your work early one night, instead of binge-watching Netflix or scrolling through Tiktok, try to read a book and turn the lights off a bit earlier.
4) Make a structured schedule that includes gym time
Having a schedule and setting goals can be very helpful when entering student life. Blocking periods of time each day for specific activities will help you stay organized and feel accomplished at the end of the day. Now, blocking time for the gym might not be a major priority, but it should still make the cut. Start with twice a week for an hour and go from there.
5) Take multiple mental breaks
Your mental health is extremely important especially during the stressors of student life. There is never a bad time to take some time for you. Whether that means getting some fresh air or hanging out with some friends to clear your mind off school, it’s essential to staying healthy. Everyone has to take a time-out for themselves sometimes, it’s only human of us!
Conclusion
These are only 5 different tips to stay healthy during the school year, but different things work for different people. Try different routines out and you will find out what works best for you.
