Self-Care During Exams

No matter what time of the academic year, many students are constantly preparing for presentations, exams, and assignments. Many stressors like catching up with lectures, procrastination, and burnout are very real and can make deadlines even more strenuous to tackle. In many scenarios, students start to dedicate their time solely to studying, and often forget to take care of themselves. It is crucial that students take care of their mental and physical health, not only to stay happier and healthier, but also to preform better on assessments! Let’s talk about some tips that students can use to help take care of themselves, particularly during finals week.

Continue to eat healthy

It is common for students to study hard and skip meals or indulge in food that may not be as healthy. It is important to stick to a consistent, healthy diet. Not only will this help you stay focused, but it will also help with memory and energy. Although, don’t forget to have a treat when you achieve milestones, because you deserve it!


Limit caffeine

Although you may believe that coffee is the only thing that will get you through any possible all-nighters, there are many healthy alternatives. Matcha and green tea, water, juice, and smoothies are all great substitutes that can provide the same benefits and more!


Take breaks

Breaks are just as important as studying. Giving your brain and body some time to refuel is necessary. Not only will this make you a little happier during exam season, but it also prevents burnout!


Organize your study area

The best way to get through finals week is by enjoying what you are studying and how you study. A lot of students believe that a clean and organized study area helps with productivity. Experiment with the space until you feel at peace being there.


Make time for activities you love

As overwhelming as studying seems, it is essential to try to get in a couple of activities that you enjoy doing. Whether this be watching an episode of a show you enjoy, or doing some yoga classes — some pampering and general self-care will help you feel rejuvenized and ready for your next study session.


Socialize

Take some time to socialize! Whether this be by studying with a friend or taking some time to relax with your parents. Having people around to communicate with can help a great deal in stress-relief, and can also remind you that you are not alone during this difficult time.


Sleep

Sleeping is one of the best things that you can do to help rejuvenize your mind and your body. Waking up feeling truly awake and ready to start your day is just one of the many benefits. Organize your schedule so that you get those minimum 7 hours of sleep that you need and deserve!
