During these times, people seem to have an overwhelmingly large amount of spare time. Some prefer to take up a new hobby, try a new recipe, start new projects or simply watch a show they never had the time for. Overall, people’s daily routines have been heavily impacted by our ever-changing world. During this pandemic there has been a high demand for volunteers at a multitude of organizations whose primary focus is to help those in need, in the midst of these troubling times. Some of these organizations and opportunities have been listed below.

1) Donate Blood
Now more than ever, Canadian blood banks are in need of donors. As more people fear coming in contact with the virus, there has been an extreme decrease in donors. The number of patients admitted to hospitals has increased and the demand for blood has also increased. There are also many ongoing investigations that involve the antibodies within the plasma of recovered COVID-19 patients. These antibodies are vital to understanding the virus and developing an effective treatment for those still infected. Here are a few places that you could consider visiting to donate blood:
2) Delivery Services
The main sources of transmission of the virus come from being in close proximity with someone who is already infected. Therefore, it would make the most sense to keep a safe distance from others. The government recommends staying home as much as possible to limit interactions and possible transmissions. As a result, many prefer to attain groceries, toiletries and other necessities through delivery. Volunteering as a delivery person helps reduce the spread. 3) Food Banks
It is important that we still remember those that are most vulnerable in our society. Many people have lost jobs and cannot afford to purchase meals. Unfortunately, the pandemic has also caused many food banks to close, thus putting more stress on those that remain open.
