As we finish up our winter breaks and head into the New Year, we will be continuing school with online learning. For some students, this will benefit them greatly as online learning helps them learn best. However, everyone has a different learning style and thus, online learning could be a struggle for some students. Some may think it’s too hard to focus through a screen and that they get easily distracted. As we continue our school year, here are some apps you can use to help you stay focused and organized so that you can learn the best you can!

1) myHomework
The myHomework app is kind of an “all in one” planner for a student’s daily school routine. The app is easily accessible as it is available on your IOS/Android phones and tablets as well as your Windows/Mac laptops and desktops. The app allows for students to keep track of the classes they need to attend, the homework needed to be completed, and upcoming assignments and evaluations. The app can send reminders to your device and you can also sync between multiple devices to keep track of your tasks everywhere. The myHomework app is free to use and it offers a premium edition for $4.99 a year. In the premium version, you are given extra features such as access to a calendar to help you organize better, the ability to attach files to your reminders, and many more. Overall, myHomework gives students an easy to use app that helps them keep track of their school routine.
2) Remember the Milk
Remember the Milk is an app that gives students a way to organize their busy schedules not only in school, but also in their day to day life. The app lets you set reminders for upcoming events whether that be school assignments, extra curricular activities, chores, etc. What makes Remember the Milk great is how easy it is to set reminders; they have a “Smart Add” feature that allows the user to add tasks to their to-do list by typing just one line. You can add the due date, how important the task is, and tags to the task using the “Smart Add” feature. Other great features include being able to create unlimited tags, having reminders sent to different apps like Twitter and email, and having the ability to attach files from your Google Drive or Dropbox to your tasks. Best of all, Remember the Milk is free across all platforms for students to use!
3) OneNote
OneNote by Microsoft is a high quality note taking application that will keep your notes organized. The note taking application allows the user to include text, pictures, tables, audio and video files, check off lists, and so much more! You can utilize the touchscreen to have hand written notes included in your document. OneNote also allows you to screenshot your document and allows for copying and pasting the screenshot. It’s essentially a digital notebook for you to use and keep on your electronic devices. It is available on your typical IOS, Android, Windows, and Mac devices as well as an online version in your web browser. OneNote is a part of Microsoft’s digital suite Office 365 which costs $79.00 a year. Fortunately, OneNote alone is completely free of charge while also offering 15 GB of Microsoft’s OneDrive—an online cloud storage service.
4) Tomighty
Tomighty is a desktop app that functions as a timer that helps utilize the Pomodoro Technique. To quickly summarize the Pomodoro Technique, you work on a task for 25 minutes and then take a break for 5 minutes. This will in turn keep you focused on a task for a longer period of time. After you repeat this process 4 times, take a longer break ranging from 15-30 minutes. This is a great technique to keep you from burning out during your work. Tomighty provides a timer that allows Windows and Mac users to set a timer for them to focus on an important task that might take a long time to complete!
5) Anki
Anki is a great application to create flashcards for you to review important and crucial information for an upcoming evaluation. Anki allows the user to customize their flashcards with pictures and other forms of media to help them with studying. Anki offers sets of flashcards that can go over 100,000 cards. You can also sync your sets of flashcards across multiple devices using the AnkiWeb service to make it easier to study on whatever device you’re on.
